Turtle Loop Sign

Summer Bugs

Back on the Horse-shoe trail. For once, we went on a hike without a dog. We started on the Turtle Loop trail on the south end of French Creek State Park. There’s a small parking area there and as we were getting prepared, a couple next to us got out of their car and sprayed themselves with bug spray. It was a warning of things to come.

It’s July in Pennsylvania. It’s hot, and it’s humid. Rain earlier in the week means the bugs were out in force. Unfortunately, the DEET didn’t work. You could argue it actually attracted the bugs. We made it about 2 miles up the trail before Suzanne had enough. We turned around and headed bag to the truck.

To salvage the short trip, we stopped at Hares Hill Brewery on Rt. 23 in Pottstown. We sat outside since we smelled of sweat and bug spray. We ordered some fries to go with our beers and both were very good. We will definitely be going back.
