Welcome to Black Dog Hikes! We are Suzanne, Mark, and Theo – 2 middle aged humans and a year-old Labrador Retriever. This site is where you will find the highlights and lowlights of our hiking and camping experiences, trail, campsite and product reviews, camping food recipes and more.

Our previous Labrador Retriever, Charlie who joined our family in July 2011 was a high energy dog. Keeping Charlie tired out lead to us checking out all the local trails and becoming hiking enthusiasts. Hiking was an outing that gave us all exercise and enjoyment. Sadly, Charlie crossed the rainbow bridge in 2021 but we soon added Theo to our family and adventures.

In the summer of 2016 Mark, Charlie and I camped in French Creek State Park to find out if we liked it. We loved cooking, eating, and sleeping outdoors plus being able to hit the hiking trails steps from the campsite. After all our fun hiking and camping, we decided to start logging our experiences in a blog. Thanks for joining us!
